An inevitable death for the spiny sphere. Even with it’s spiked shell, it’s no match for the canines with an appetite for the spheres.
The soft tissue gets its blue color from the water hidden in pockets underground. Safe from predators and the perfect place to lay its eggs and letting the younglings grow.
When they have grown enough, they drill through the sand towards the heat which hardens the shell. They stay in the same place until they have enough nutrition to shed their spikes and ride the desert storms to find new pockets of water.
Made with acrylics on canvas.
20×20cm
The canine of the red desert feasting on a spiny sphere, one of the few ways to get nutrition in the wasteland. The spikes has become a part of the canine, blending in with the fur. A fortunate feature this time, but features from consumption of other creatures are unpredictable. This canine is a part of a tribe who uses glassy material for both decoration, jewellery and tools. A peaceful tribe, not seeking power through consumption, but survival.
This piece is made with graphite pencils on smooth heavy A3 paper with a slightly yellow tint.
